Professor Martin Stratmann, President of the Max Planck Society, said: “Given the German research unit published in Springer Nature Magazines, this agreement will mark an important step in the release of subscription paywall scholarships that have for too long hindered the work of scientists and scientists in our digital age. A cost-neutral transformation agreement with a publishing house as large as Springer Nature sets a new standard for academic and research organizations, which is part of the Open Access 2020 initiative and shows that the institutional resources currently used to support the Paywall subscription system can be redesigned to increase openness in scientific journals that provide researchers` natural habitat on the way to a fully open information environment. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today between MPDL Services on behalf of the DEAL project and Springer Nature is the preconditions for the world`s most comprehensive Open Access Agreement (OA), which is expected to be concluded before the end of the year. The agreement between the DEAL and Wiley institutions is part of a coordinated national strategy that allows for a global transition from today`s scientific journals to open access. Starting in 2019, DEAL-Institutions researchers will now be able to read all Wiley magazines and publish their own Open Access primary research and review articles, while maintaining copyright in their works. Wiley does not charge fees for authors covered by the agreement. Publication and reading fees (PAR) and access to APCS open access gold related to the agreement are paid centrally through the institutions. Some institutional funding policies may vary depending on gold-OA-APCs. Please consult them with your library with a few exceptions. As a precondition for the DEAL agreement, the statement “Open Access Financing is activated and organized by the DEAL project” is automatically added to the confirmation part of your document. This information is used for identification only to assign your article to the right institution if you choose the open access option, and it does not affect the information contained in the published article. Frank Vrancken Peeters, Chief Commercial Officer of Springer Nature, said: “Springer Nature has been at the forefront of transformation agreements since 2014.
